Prophesy of Inevitability
Quantum theories say there are such a large (infinitesimal?) amount of collisions of quantum particles that occur each second and ultimately the past collisions led up to today's existence -- and it goes on.
The Bible says that across all the collisions that have happened is a single omnipresent God that is in control. Not through controlling the free will of a few beings (with souls) but by responding to each and every collision with new creations -- causing new particles and new collisions.
The central message in the book of Ecclesiastic is that the more things change the more they are the same. So this leads to the question of the day - is a political shift from democracy to totalitarism inevitable?
Consider timeless model we "can" derive from examples in the Bible:
- A nation is stressed : economically and transformationally
- Politically action groups form - reaction by many stressed - not a single individual.
- Strong leader raises claiming to have answers; but loses election and raising the fervor of the stressed.
- Strong leader wins election; power is consolidated in social congress of lawmakers and justice peacekeepers.
- The attacks on national institution (evil: fire, bomb, violence) as conflict rise and the conflicts justify removal of the old
- The nationalistic Evil reaches it's peak
- Goodness organizes, opposes and prevails; the new is reborn, until we start #1 again.
The books of the prophets constantly advising to return to the goodness of past. Where is "goodness of people's hearts" all during phases 1-6 one may ask? Consider WWII when goodness became passive in the acts and rise of Nazism. One can see 1-7 in the history books. The economic stresses of losing WW1 and the great depression both driving an extreme nationalistic fervor that raises a strong leader (Hitler) who first lost an election; then gained total control of military, government, justice, schools, and all national and international policies. With no control or balance, wielding real terror, resulting in 20 million dead.
But let us return to our day where the particles continue to collide at unfathomable levels just as they always do. And nothing new is under the sun.
Today a court considers whether an strong leader who was formally legally elected is immune from criminal prosecution. For the judges this is not a simple matter; for at the heart of it is the inevitability of tyranny in a democratic system of laws.
Will the judges assume the worst given that our system of laws were designed to protect against the worst scenario. So I assume the judges are doing a thought experiment where we assume a legally elected official has committed a serious crime impacting the whole state.
On one hand - if the official is protected for whatever reasons justices deem prudent (most likely to prevent disorder of society) the judges surely see the recourse is for a people's revolution. Ie. those who feel the crime is an extreme offense to the order of society and fits the criteria - "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation". Simply, the people's recourse with the inaction of a justice system is already justified by the Declaration of Independence rationalized by the "opinions of humankind".
The other hand - if the official is not protected by the justice system but is protected by the political system (congress and ruling parties inaction) then the same applies. In this case, we can hope the wisdom of political leaders would effect pressure on the official to resign as in the Nixon case. The inaction of political giants in the face of criminal acts on the state is cowardliness and a fate for 3rd world countries living without a Bill of Rights nor a Declaration of Independence.
Finally, if the official is not protected and found guilty by the justice system but persist resistance we can only hope that the justice system would effect the right level of punishment upon the official. This is the most stressful case for a polarized nation. For the guilty judgement can potentially be the spark for one side to bring disorder to the society - as in the case of post-Nixon conservatism movement to an extreme strategy.
The judges know that whatever judgement they give it will harden the hearts, biblically, of the polarized sides.
Meanwhile the particles continue to collide at unfathomable levels just as they always do. Nothing new is under the sun.
And here is the biblical perspective that I failed to notice in the book of Ecclesiastic - energy is the key. In quantum theories, the milestones in the development of stars, solar systems and ultimately beings with souls are all brought about from energy. Energy acting, ie. nuclear fusions, from the stress of collisions. Whether they be tiny atoms or the big bangs -- it is all about energy being released. And Ecclesiastic writes:
Simply, the inevitability of tyranny, of absolution powerful leaders and of draconian systems have been written into our destiny not by the infinite collisions of existing particles but the unknown energy driving everything forward. Energy that strives to bring a universe with justice, the love of mercy and faith in the omnipresence of God's energy and Spirit. The same energy contained in the same collisions of our existing particle universe.
